Target Shooting School’s core values are Trust, Responsibility, Attention, Collaboration, Openness and Mindfulness. In our after-school classes our students from 8 to 18 years are introduced to target shooting as a hobby and shown a pathway towards excellence, should they choose it. This August we are offering a series of workshops across Kent where children can escape the holiday boredom, learn something completely different and parents can have a well-deserved break!
We fulfil any child’s curiosity surrounding our sport and dispel all misconceptions fostered by computer games. We are a fantastic antidote to too much screen time! Target Shooting is also a superb alternative to main stream sports. It maintains a high level of competition but does not rely on team interaction or physical prowess for success to be achieved. In fact, it draws on different skills that are equally important for our lives in an environment that is much less overwhelming than a games field. Our classes provide animated social interaction, communication and teamwork are essential parts in integrating students. Each class is a group that works together, not just as individuals. We encourage students to become more autonomous, allowing them to work and play with increasing independence.
Target Shooting School started in Kent 4 years ago with the intent of bringing shooting to a grassroots audience. Shooting used to be a widespread, community sport and we want to make it accessible again. We bridge the gap between a hobby and a committed sporting approach. Mal West, Principal of all Kent Schools, is a County Level coach with over 20 years’ experience coaching juniors. Target Shooting School employs experienced, qualified and DBS checked staff from a range of shooting and teaching backgrounds. Following a structured and progressive syllabus we have taught all kinds of children in a safe, controlled environment. From instilling safety rules, to the breadth and depth of marksmanship principles, termly progression opens a pathway to county and regional competition. Classes take place in multiple venues across Kent, made possible by our bespoke, portable 10 metre range and students use quality air rifles fit for competition.
Target Shooting School provides a new and unique way to explore a niche sport. We have made an inclusive sport accessible, we are spreading the word and bringing it to you. Our students find themselves in a social group of like-minded people working within a disciplined activity where attention and responsibility forms trust. Sporting benefits include increased body and self-awareness in terms of biomechanics and coordination. There are mental benefits too, process discipline, concentration, calming, patience, perseverance and resilience. Mindfulness is a process that encourages all of these benefits and many students grow in confidence having experienced our teaching.
We want to reach as many people as possible to give them the opportunity to try something new. We want to de-mystify the sport and educate, allowing people to get the most out of it. We consider ourselves ambassadors of shooting and we are passionate about the benefits it offers and the fun to be had along the journey. Come along and join us!
