Family Shows Bring Magic, Music and Mischief to

The Trinity Theatre This Spring

Trinity Theatre invites families to step into a world bursting with imagination, laughter and storytelling. Packed with music, adventure and interactive fun, the colourful programme brings communities together with something for every age to enjoy.

Half Term entertainment commences with the heartwarming Julia Donaldson mystery of The Detective Dog to the fast-paced interactive fun of WiFi Wars. June brings the enchanting aerial adventure of Take Flight, and the timeless mischief of The Cat in the Hat, the season celebrates creativity, curiosity and the joy of shared live theatre. A very special highlight includes an appearance from beloved children’s author and performer Michael Rosen, making this an unmissable line-up for families this spring.

Michael Rosen: NICE! (17 May) EXTRA performance added due to popular demand.  Poetry legend Michael Rosen celebrates his 80th birthday with a brand-new live show!  Michael looks back at a lifetime in poetry, performing beloved classics including Hot Food, No Breathing and Chocolate Cake, along with never-before-heard poems from his new collection Peas On Your Knees. NICE! Is a show for all ages, from the young to the young at heart.

WiFi Wars (25 May) A completely unique theatrical experience for ages 6+, WiFi Wars turns the audience into the stars of the show. Using smartphones and tablets, participants compete as teams and as individuals in games, quizzes and challenges hosted by comedian Steve McNeil. Fast-paced, interactive and hilariously unpredictable, it’s an award-winning show that brings gaming culture to life on stage.

The Detective Dog (26 & 27 May) Based on the beloved book by Julia Donaldson and Sara Ogilvie, The Detective Dog is a delightful and inclusive production for Deaf and hearing audiences. Featuring British Sign Language, creative captions and spoken English, the show follows Nell the detective dog as she solves a mysterious book disappearance. Expect puppetry, music and sensory surprises in this engaging celebration of reading.

Take Flight (7 & 8 June) Take Flight is a stunning aerial theatre show for 0-2 year olds and their grown-ups. The story follows a musical mother bird as their baby hatches, grows and explores, navigating the challenges of hunger, sleep and play. Culminating in a beautiful aerial moment, the mother bird supports her baby to leave the nest & take flight.

This multi-sensory, interactive show ignites the imagination and curiosity of babies who are then invited into the space with the performers to explore the baby safe set and props, including having a swing in the silks.

The Cat in the Hat (12 & 13 June) Experience the mischief with the acclaimed stage adaptation of Dr Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat. From the moment his tall, red and white-striped hat appears, Sally and her brother know that the cat in the hat is the funniest, most mischievous cat they have ever met. With the trickiest of tricks and craziest of ideas, he turns a rainy afternoon into an amazing adventure. This playful production is an ideal first theatre experience for children aged 3+, with the added delight of meeting the Cat after the show.
