NETBALL ACADEMY

Since its launch in April 2018 the Caterham Netball Academy has seen over 100 young netballers participating in holiday camps as well as term time courses. Attendees of the Academy are a mixture of Caterham school children as well as other local primary and secondary schools.

The Academy aims to target both elite and participation netballers; from those who are starting out on their journey to those who are competing regularly. With specially tailored camps and courses it has been possible to allow lots of different girls the opportunity to experience the fun side of netball whilst still maintain a competitive element.
Catering for such a large age and experience range has been a fantastic opportunity to bring in some expert coaches from Super league and International Netball backgrounds, most recently Rhea Dixon (current Surrey Storm, former England U21), Leah Goss (current Surrey Storm U21 captain) and Anya Wood (former Loughborough Lightning and England U19). These coaches have provided great insight into elite netball training and coaching. Alongside the guest coaches, the Academy has also been supported by a team of Sixth Form coaches, their enthusiasm and passion for netball has not only made them great coaches but also very popular amongst the Academy attendees.
As well as delivering camps and courses the Academy has recently hosted it’s first taster sessions and masterclasses for local primary school children. A visit from St John’s Primary School saw 14 enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 girls take to the Caterham courts in a fun session to help build their confidence and develop their netball skills. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet even more budding young netballers from our local community and ignite a passion for netball.
