Why, oh why, am I a crocodile? Is about a crocodile that so desperately wishes she were anything but herself.

She strolls along admiring beautiful creatures, getting more and more upset, then encounters a blind monkey who teaches her a valuable lesson: to appreciate what you have and love yourself for who you are.

When he introduces her to some newfound friends she soon realises things aren’t always as they first appear.

Why oh why crocodile is a story that tackles the issues of negative self-concept, self-image and low self-esteem in a child friendly way.

Alex Brooks lives in Tunbridge Wells and has been passionately writing children’s books for 15 years. She is a mum of 3 (to a ‘spirited’ 4 year old and lively 2 year old twins), a property developer and was a London fire-fighter for 5 years. She is excited to have now found the time to have her first book, ‘Why, oh why, am I a crocodile’, illustrated and self-published.

Alex’s books are aimed at children aged 2 – 5 years but are fun for both kids and adults and also include a moral lesson.

Hannah Worsley, now Bristol based, grew up in Tunbridge Wells and studied illustration at Bristol UWE. She loves a vibrant colour pallet and her illustrations thrive from all the curious details in the world around her; hence why she has found herself naturally gravitating towards children’s book illustrations.

Hannah and Alex were old friends from Tunbridge Wells before going their separate ways to Bristol and London respectively. Many years later it was their mutual passion for children’s books that re-united them.
