The Family Grapevine is delighted to announce that it has recently joined the Children’s Activities Association as a Fellowship member and media partner. The Children’s Activities Association is an industry-led, not-for-profit community interest company founded and governed by experts to help parents, schools, nurseries and children’s activities providers to raise the standard of children’s activities. CAA members work through an accreditation system covering areas such as health and safety, child safeguarding and training which means that parents, schools and nurseries have peace of mind when choosing an accredited activity provider. Over 200,000 children attend a CAA member led activity every week and this is growing every day. CAA members include household names such as Tumble Tots as well as small, local providers.

The Family Grapevine will be promoting the CAA message of #ParentsPeaceOfMind through advertising, social media posts and by participating in Children’s Activities Week taking place from 30th April – 4th May 2018.

Land Securities has announced that GraVity, the UK’s premium trampoline park brand, is to open its flagship trampoline park at Bluewater, Europe’s leading retail and leisure destination.  The GraVity site will occupy a 25,000 sq ft custom created leisure space within the lower hall of Bluewater’s redeveloped Plaza area.  Work on the Plaza has already begun on-site, and GraVity is due to launch in time for Christmas this year.

GraVity’s trampoline parks are designed by an in-house team and incorporate wall-to-wall trampolines to create large open play areas.  A variety of fitness and entertainment activities will be available to people of all ages, including open jump sessions, “TrampoLEAN” classes, specialised versions of basketball and dodge ball /Volley ball as well as hired parties and corporate group bookings.

Founded by entrepreneurs Harvey Jenkinson and Michael Harrison in 2014, GraVity’s first trampoline park launched in February 2015 at Xscape Yorkshire. Since then, GraVity has opened three further parks and with a recent investment of £5 million, it has plans to double in size with four further sites in prime locations; which includes the Bluewater flagship park. The investment will also enable GraVity to make modifications to existing parks to introduce new activities and increase capacity.

Rob Hardie, Senior Portfolio Manager at Land Securities, co-owner and asset manager of Bluewater, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming GraVity to Bluewater’s redeveloped Plaza.  The brand adds to our already popular range of leisure activities including the Showcase cinema, which is currently being upgraded to a 17-screen Cinema de Lux. Together these leisure activities create a unique day-out experience that always provides something surprising and memorable for guests, and help to ensure Bluewater’s position as Europe’s leading retail and leisure destination.”

Harvey Jenkinson, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer from GraVity added: “Bluewater is renowned as one of the UK’s premier destinations for retail and leisure, making it the ideal location for our latest trampoline park.  The impressive footfall, diverse catchment and complete day-out offering make it the perfect launch-pad for our expansion. This will be our flagship location nationally, enabling us to further establish ourselves as the number one, premium trampoline operator in the UK.  I am extremely excited about the future of GraVity and Bluewater.”

This announcement follows the recent news that Land Securities is redeveloping Bluewater’s Plaza.  Designed to enhance the Plaza experience for guests, the plans include the creation of four new screens for the Showcase Cinema de Lux, as well as three new restaurants, and two new leisure spaces, one of which will be home to GraVity.

In addition, Missguided is making its first move outside London at Bluewater, with the launch of a 16,000 sq ft statement store on the lower Rose Gallery, and The White Company has just opened its new regional flagship on the lower Guildhall.

To celebrate the award, Bluewater hosted an array of Environmental Day activities, including; pond life displays, leaf and bark art, face painting and balloon modelling, owl & hawk displays and more. The parkland is among only 1,686 parks and green spaces nationwide that have received a prestigious Green Flag Award.

Visitors can pick up a nature trail leaflet and follow the footprints from outside Zizzi to discover the picturesque Green Flag surroundings – the perfect setting for a family picnic. Plus, when children complete the trail and hand the sheet at the Red Concierge Desk (close to John Lewis), they’ll receive a special gift from the Nature Trail team.

Shopping centre owner intu’s long term strategy to attract new visitors to London’s largest borough is continuing with four more vibrant retailers forming part of intu Bromley’s revitalised retail and leisure offer.

British lifestyle brand Joules, worldwide holiday company Kuoni, fashion accessories retailer Lovisa and American footwear company Skechers have all taken space at intu Bromley ahead of a new alfresco dining scheme opening at the centre in July.

Last year intu Bromley underwent an extensive refurbishment and started construction work on a new restaurant expansion overlooking Queen’s Garden in Bromley. A number of high profile aspirational brands have since signed up for space, taking advantage of the centre’s annual footfall of 18 million and prosperous customer base, with 90% of visitors drawn from the most affluent ABC1 socio-economic group across London and Kent.

Rebecca Ryman, regional director of intu, said: “We’re investing heavily in Bromley with our recent mall refurbishment and new restaurant expansion and this is clearly paying off with a number of exciting and high profile retailers selecting our centre as the right location to attract affluent shoppers from central London and the south east.

“We want to make sure Bromley continues to thrive by ensuring that it remains an attractive alternative to other major shopping destinations nearby. Our revitalised mix of brands at the centre will play a crucial role in encouraging customers to come from further and stay for longer and this in turn helps all our retailers to flourish.”

David Ball, Retail Property Acquisitions Manager at Joules which is due to open in July, said: “We’re excited to be in Bromley for the first time. It’s exactly the right space to bring our unique personality and style to shoppers and a key location in our continued strategy to grow our core UK market.”

Helen Fensom, Store Manager at Kuoni intu Bromley which opened in May, said: “Our new store is the ideal space for our passionate team to share their experiences and knowledge with a number of holidaymakers living in London and Kent. We’re pleased to be in the area providing the very best service and environment and creating long-standing memories for anyone that walks through the door.”

Joules has taken 1,754 sq ft, Kuoni 1,528 sq ft, Lovisa 656 sq ft, and Skechers 2,475 sq ft. It is the second UK store for Lovisa, which has more than 200 stores globally.

intu Bromley has been at the heart of the local community for the past 25 years, with an annual footfall of 18 million visitors. This July, the centre will be adding a host of new tastes to the town’s menu with the opening of an alfresco Restaurant Terrace overlooking Queen’s Garden. Joining the intu family are Byron Burger, Ed’s Diner, Giraffe, Project Pie and Wagamama. The five new restaurants complement the already wide choice of in-centre dining options including Belgo, Carluccio’s, Joe’s Kitchen and YO! Sushi.

The development will enhance Bromley’s increasingly vibrant food scene and locals will be able to enjoy London’s favourite world-cuisine without travelling further afield. From July 4, dining hours will be extended until 11pm and car parking will be available until midnight, drawing commuters from central London and boosting the town’s night life.

Sustainability is a core principle of the Restaurant Terrace development, which will also create an estimated 500 new jobs – a truly positive addition to the Borough.

The project is a major milestone in a 14 million pound redevelopment plan for intu Bromley, which has already produced a complete centre refresh and attracted new luxury goods and designer clothing stores including Fat Face, Jo Malone, Massimo Dutti, The White Company and Timberland. Also part of the redevelopment is an exciting new cinema located on the roof of the centre set to open in 2017. The cinema will be a high quality boutique concept with high end seating, an enhanced food offer and waiter service making it clearly distinct from a more traditional cinema.

Byron Hamburgers

Gourmet burger empire Byron offers simple, delicious, juicy hamburgers, made with properly-sourced British beef and the best ingredients possible. A favourite amongst Londoners as the ‘go to’ burger joint, Bromley locals will now get the chance to enjoy these beautiful juicy burgers with lots of flavour right on their doorstep.

Ed’s Easy Diner

At Ed’s you can relax at a booth or table and enjoy great food and service, or sit on a stool at the counter while listening to the retro juke box. Ed’s diner adds a taste of the 1950s to Bromley with a classic American menu which includes burgers, fried chicken and hot dogs. Diners will also get to see their food being freshly prepared in the open kitchen.

Explore many wonderful foods from around the globe while listening to world music in a vibrant atmosphere. The fast service and menu range will satisfy all members of the family, with generous portions that are good value for money. This restaurant will fast become a family favourite!

Project Pie

A new concept in pizza and already hugely popular in the US, Project Pie is bringing its second UK restaurant to Bromley. Diners are empowered to design and build their very own bespoke pizza, combining the restaurant’s unique artisan dough and the choice of 30 plus high quality toppings. The pizzas take less than three minutes to cook, and BrewDog craft beer is available!

Noodle and vegetarian lovers will no longer need to travel further than Bromley to enjoy popular ‘Japanese inspired’ dishes. Already a household favourite across London, Wagamama is inspired by fast-paced, Japanese ramen bars and a celebration of Asian food. Pick from all kinds of rice and noodle dishes, alongside fresh salads and shareable sides.

Around 220 employees from Fennies Day Nursery and Preschool will get together for a Day of Excellence at the home of Crystal Palace FC on Thursday (24th March).

Staff from Fennies’ eight nurseries located across south London and Surrey will spend a day celebrating the company’s achievements and hearing from expert and inspirational speakers.

The event will take place on Thursday 24th March and will feature talks by Dr Jools Page from the University of Sheffield and food writer Annabel Karmel MBE.

Dr Page carried out a study with Fennies into what she has dubbed ‘professional love’ and will talk about the importance of encouraging early years professionals to express affectionate and caring behaviours towards the children in their care.

Annabel Karmel is currently working on a new menu for Fennies and will be inviting the company’s staff to try some dishes from the new menu as well as giving a talk on how she started her career and the importance of never giving up.

She will also be passing on some tips on healthy snacks and talking about the new Fennies menu.

The day will conclude with the presentation of the Fennies Awards of Excellence, including the Apprentice of the Year award.

“In the past 18 months Fennies has taken great strides, opening three new nurseries in Bromley, Epsom and Horley, and we are continuing to expand and grow,” said John Warren, Director of Childcare Services at Fennies.

“We regard our employees as part of the Fennies family and we are always looking for ways to encourage them to work together even though they may be based in nurseries in different parts of London and the south-east.

“Our Day of Excellence will be an opportunity to bring our staff together, to inspire them and to encourage learning and the sharing of great ideas. We’re really looking forward to the day!”

Fennies has nurseries in Croydon, South Croydon, Purley, Bromley, Epsom, Horley, Sanderstead and Beckenham.

The Day of Excellence runs from 9.15am until 5pm on Thursday 24th March at Selhurst Park, home of Crystal Palace FC, London SE25 6PU.

Bromley police will be in centre this Friday for national CSE Awareness Day

Officers from Bromley Police will be at intu Bromley this Friday, 18th March, to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation (CSE) and give members of the community advice on how to spot the warning signs and what to do if you suspect a child is in danger.

Detective Constable Zoe Hinton says as part of the National CSE Awareness Day, Bromley Police will also be handing out leaflets at Bromley South train station, and visiting local schools to teach children about CSE.

“intu and Bromley Town Centre is a busy shopping area and an excellent opportunity to engage with members of the community, so by utilising the stand we hope to speak to as many people as possible to raise awareness and try to highlight the positive impact that supporting victims and targeting offenders can have within a community,” DC Hinton says.

“We hope that through raising awareness, this will help us to identify as many victims as possible that need our help and support.”

intu Bromley marketing manager Craig Higgins says, “intu is proud to get behind such a worthy cause, which will give our guests practical advice on how to protect one of the most vulnerable groups in society. Guests can drop by the Bromley Police CSE stand on level 2, adjacent to Marks & Spencer and Beaverbrooks between 9am – 6pm this Friday, to find out how they can make a difference.”

Police are using the SAFEGUARD mnemonic to train and help people to identify possible victims:

Sexual health and behaviour

Absent from home or school

Familial abuse and/or problems at home

Emotional and physical condition

Gangs, older age groups and involvement in crime

Use of technology and sexual bullying

Alcohol and drug misuse

Receipt of unexplained gifts or money

Distrust of authority figures

  • Innovative, live events showcase the latest fashions from intu’s retailers and invite shoppers to join in the fun

intu, the owner of some of the UK’s largest and most popular shopping centres, is set to launch its first national campaign to celebrate spring / summer fashion.

Following on from the success of intu’s first national Christmas TV ad, ‘come and play’, this latest campaign will see intu curate styles from retailers across its centres, bringing up to the minute high street fashion to its customers in a friendly and accessible way.

Called the ‘Style Garden’, the campaign, which will launch at intu Bromley on March 29th, combines a digital installation with a live fashion show with a difference, and will be rolled out at each of intu’s 15 branded shopping centres through March.

The installations have been created to stimulate all five senses in an immersive experience designed to showcase the season’s trends, and will feature original video content to inspire intu’s customers and drive sales for its retailers.

Craig Higgins, marketing manager at intu Bromley said, “spring/summer fashion is important for both our customers and our retailers. We’ve used our national scale to really get to understand what our customers want and our research tells us the latest fashion trends are often presented in a way that makes it difficult for them to choose what’s right for them. So we’ve decided to do something different this year and deliver spring/summer fashion with the signature intu twist.”

The campaign will launch on 10th March and run until 30th April:

From March 18th – intu will be offering the chance for one lucky guest to win a £500 gift card to spend in store. To take part, guests simply need to log onto intu Bromley’s Facebook page and leave a comment on their favourite seasonal look, explaining what they like about it and why.

March 29th to April 4th –  intu Bromley will be blossoming into a vibrant Style Garden showcasing the latest spring/summer trends.

April 2nd – a live fashion show will display all the latest trends directly from the catwalk.
