Growing Together: Haywards Heath Launches 2026 Best Kept Garden Competition

Following another successful year, the Town Council and the Haywards Heath IN BLOOM Committee are pleased to launch the 2026 Best Kept Garden Competition, inviting the whole community to take part.

This year’s competition features four categories:

  • Front garden / balcony
  • Communal garden
  • Business frontage
  • Allotment

Whether it’s a vibrant display at your doorstep, a shared green haven, a flourishing vegetable plot, or a business proud of its floral appeal, the competition welcomes entries from all corners of the community. Participants can also nominate a neighbour or local business whose garden they admire.

Application forms are available on the Town Council website, with entries closing on Wednesday 15 July 2026. Judging will take place later in the month, with winners invited to a celebratory awards tea party at the Town Hall in October.

The competition follows a particularly successful year for the town in the South & South East in Bloom Awards 2025, where Haywards Heath received multiple honours, including a third consecutive Gold for Western Road Cemetery and several ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ awards recognising outstanding community-led projects. These achievements highlight the collective effort across the town and continue to inspire residents to take pride in their own green spaces. The Town Council will be entering the competition again in 2026, with the results being announced later in the year.

Cllr Sandy Ellis, Chair of the Haywards Heath IN BLOOM Committee, said: “This competition is a wonderful opportunity every year to celebrate the success of our local gardening community. It’s always such a privilege to be part of the judging panel, alongside our esteemed judges from the allotments and Town Council. It’s beautiful to see the town bursting with colour, and the perfect chance to boost our Vitamin D by enjoying the great outdoors. Good luck to everyone who participates”.

Haywards Heath IN BLOOM continues to bring together residents, businesses, and local groups to champion environmental responsibility and civic pride. Through activities such as community planting and litter picks, the initiative helps ensure the town remains a welcoming and sustainable place for all.

New members are always welcome. To find out more or get involved, please contact Haywards Heath Town Council on 01444 455694 or visit their website.

Let’s keep Haywards Heath blooming – together.
