Young Carers Enjoy Creativity, Connection and Confidence Building Fun in Haywards Heath

Creativity, laughter and a strong sense of community were on display as young carers enjoyed a special day of activities organised by Haywards Heath Town Council, designed to give them time to relax, connect and feel celebrated.

Held at Haywards Heath Town Hall and Fun Pots, the event brought together children who regularly support a family member due to illness, disability or mental health needs. From the moment they arrived, the focus was on making everyone feel welcome, included and supported, with ice‑breaker activities helping friendships form quickly.

One of the most popular parts of the day was a visit to Fun Pots, where each child took part in pottery painting, decorating either a mug or a cereal bowl. The session encouraged creativity and self‑expression, with every child able to take home a unique, hand‑painted item as a lasting reminder of the day.

Back at the Town Hall, the children prepared their own pizzas and later enjoyed eating them together, sharing stories and laughter in a relaxed, friendly environment. The afternoon continued with a vibrant programme of crafts and games designed to inspire imagination and boost confidence. Activities included decorating tote bags, making bookmarks, creating pop‑up helicopters and crafting parachuting Easter animals, with plenty of smiles and proud moments as each creation came to life.

A spokesperson for Haywards Heath Town Council said:

“Young carers often take on a lot of responsibility, and that can sometimes mean missing out on opportunities to just have fun. This day was about giving them space to relax, be creative and connect with other young people who understand what it’s like to be a young carer.”

The event was praised for its positive atmosphere and the chance it gave young carers to step away from their everyday responsibilities, build friendships and enjoy experiences focused entirely on their wellbeing.

The event forms part of the Town Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting young carers in the community, helping to raise awareness of their needs and ensuring they feel recognised and included.
