Following its popular debut earlier this year, the Haywards Heath History Hunt is back for the summer holidays by popular demand! Residents and visitors are invited to explore the town’s fascinating past with two free, family-friendly trails, available from Friday 24th July until Monday 31st August.
Both routes start and finish at Haywards Heath Town Hall, taking participants on an interactive journey through the town’s rich history. Using a free phone app, players can discover historic landmarks, answer questions, solve puzzles and complete fun challenges as they compete to climb the leaderboard.
The History Hunt was first launched as part of the Haywards Heath Pop-Up Museum at the end of April, where it proved to be a popular attraction, inspiring requests from the community for its return.
The original route returns with some exciting updates, featuring new stops alongside many of the favourite locations from the original trail. This easy-to-follow, mostly flat walk takes around 40 minutes to complete and uncovers fascinating stories from Haywards Heath’s past, from the town’s first school to the history of some of our beloved parks, and many other hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
New for this summer is a second History Hunt route, created especially for those looking for a fresh challenge. Also taking around 40 minutes to complete, the new trail explores even more of the town’s history, including the railway, old cattle market, and the library. This route includes some uphill sections and woodland paths, making it slightly more challenging while remaining suitable for families who enjoy a longer walk and a sense of adventure.
The History Hunt is completely free to play and suitable for all ages, making it the perfect activity for families, friends and history enthusiasts during the summer holidays. Participants can begin their adventure by visiting the website, where they can access the link to get started.

With two different routes to choose from, there’s something for everyone, whether you’re discovering the trail for the first time or returning to explore even more of Haywards Heath’s fascinating history. It’s a wonderful way to get outdoors, spend time together as a family and see the town from a completely different perspective.”
While the History Hunt is free to enjoy, participants are invited to make an optional donation in support of the Mayor’s Charity of the Year, Kangaroos, helping to provide opportunities and support for local children and adults with learning disabilities. Donations can be made online on the ticket site, or in person at Haywards Heath Town Hall.
