Beautiful gifting for all: Upcycling workshops roll out across the Borough

This summer, come along to one (or more!) of the FREE workshops being held around the Borough of Bromley by local charity Greener and Cleaner.

Launched in 2019 as a Facebook group, Greener and Cleaner empower the borough’s residents to reduce their environmental impact and ‘make a difference’ in their local community. Focusing on the small steps each person or household can take, they aim to make a measurable difference to the local environment.

“We’ve got 7 and a half years to reduce carbon emissions of this country. Can we do it? Yes we can! Why can we do it? Because people like you and me are spending our time, our hours, our energy, our professional skills to make sure it happens”. Parisa Wright, Founder and CEO of Greener and Cleaner inspires a fast growing, dedicated team of volunteers and staff.

Working with residents, local experts and small businesses Greener and Cleaner organise in-person and remote upcycling workshops, repair clinics, litter picks, and other events to teach skills and provide clarity on local waste and carbon reduction, whilst enabling people to make new local friends, improve mental health and save money.

Building on their success and thanks to funding from the London Borough of Bromley Cultural Grant, Greener and Cleaner have expanded their range of free reusable gift bag workshops across the borough.

Save Money. Learn a New Skill. Reduce Waste.

Wrapping paper and gift bags often contain plastic and glitter in their shiny surfaces. Even if you pay extra for ‘eco friendly’ versions the recycling plants cannot distinguish between the two, so they all end up in the incinerator or landfill.

Using unloved clothes/fabrics and simple sewing, artistic and crafting techniques participants will make and take home a beautiful waste-free way to wrap presents for special occasions, birthdays and Christmas.

If you’ve never used a sewing machine or threaded a needle, this is the chance to learn.

By creating a bag that can be regifted, participants will learn or improve on a life skill whilst simultaneously reducing fabric and wrapping paper waste, keeping it out of landfill – and saving money in the process!

All Greener and Cleaner workshops are free and taught by local artists, makers and small businesses.
