Brighton’s art scene is set for a provocative one-night takeover this autumn as Helm Gallery, a curated gallery with a café, cocktail bar and live events programme, brings master forger David Henty to the gallery. Visitors to The Forger’s Game exhibition will be able to see David Henty’s recreations up close and explore the playful question of whether they can spot what is real and what is not.

Designed to be accessible for families as well as art lovers, the exhibition offers a chance for children and adults to look more closely at famous styles, signatures and details, while seeing how Henty recreates the work of artists including Picasso and Lowry. His reputation rests on just how convincing those recreations can be, with one of his “Picassos” reportedly valued at £1 million at auction before Henty revealed he had painted it, while a Lowry he created for crime writer Peter James later fooled an art expert.

Henty now works openly, producing declared recreations and commissions for galleries and collectors, and the collection will remain on display for two weeks.
