Next week, over 80+ local actors and dogs will take to Theatre Royal Brighton’s historic stage in a brand-new production from beloved local producers Brighton Theatre Group.
Following the sell-out run of Les Misérables – Let the People Sing in 2025, Brighton Theatre Group returns to Theatre Royal Brighton this August with a Truly Scrumptious production of one of the world’s favourite family musicals — Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International and features a host of talented actors and dog performers — all who are local to the Brighton and wider Sussex area.
Keith Shepherd, Chairman of Brighton Theatre Group, said: “Following the incredible success of Les Miserables celebrating 40 years of the world’s favourite musical in 2025, I’m delighted to return to the prestigious landmark Theatre Royal Brighton with the world’s favourite family musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Producing theatre in my home city, in a theatre I’ve been familiar with for a lifetime, is a real privilege and to step where the good and the great of UK theatre has stood is a real pinch me moment. New stars are born of this famous stage that lives along with the Royal Pavilion as one of Brighton’s greatest assets.”
Principal casting includes Carl Lovejoy as Caractacus Potts, Kiarnie Camp as Truly Scrumptious, Georgia Burns and Eve Morris Fuzi as Jemima Potts, Aaryan Willmot and Ronnie Harman as Jeremy Potts. They are accompanied Steve Emery as Grandpa Potts, Gary Lynn as Baron Bomburst, Jodie Michelle as Baroness Bomburst and Dean Cowlard and Philip Lloyd Davies as Boris and Goran, Nick Jordan as The Toymaker, Jake Beniston as Child Cacher, Katherine Johnson Miller as Miss Phillips and Violet, and Wain Douglas as Lord Scrumptious and Sid.
Among the cast is also English Sheepdog Marco, who performs onstage alongside Grandpa Potts in the role of Edison.
The cast have been tirelessly rehearsing multiple times a week for the past few months, despite other responsibilities, busy schedules and the summer heat. On rehearsing alongside his fellow cast members, Carl Lovejoy (Caractacus Potts) said:
“There’s fewer places more full of fun and talent than a BTG rehearsal. Putting the show together is always such an exciting experience! Caractacus brings a lot to the table I’ve not done before. It’s my first time playing a father which was a bit nerve-wracking at first but I’ve loved it!”
Kiarnie Camp (Truly Scrumptious), is looking forward to returning to Theatre Royal Brighton following her debut in Les Misérables. She said: “It’s such a beautiful theatre that it’s impossible not to feel excited every time you walk out in front of the audience. It’s a real privilege to perform there.”
The fun-filled musical promises laughter, exuberant choreography and a live orchestra — featuring many favourite songs, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Hushabye Mountain, Toot Sweet, Posh and Me Ol’ Bamboo.
Can Potts, Truly, Jeremy & Jemima outwit the dastardly Baron Bomburst who has decreed that all children be banished from his kingdom?
Will the Child Catcher catch them, or will good prevail over evil?
