Will Writing Month 2024: create your legacy while helping to continue Martlets’

From the start of next month [April 1] Brighton and Hove residents can book a solicitor to draw up a Will for a fraction of the usual cost during Martlets’ Will Writing Month.

Throughout May eight local firms are giving their time in return for donations to Martlets as part of the Sussex hospice charity’s annual Will Writing Month. Solicitors include:

Burt Brill & Cardens; ACT Legal Limited; Goodlaw Solicitors; Robert Simon & Co; UHY Hacker Young; Barwells Peacehaven; Barwells Newhaven, and Coole Bevis LLP.

The process is simple: register interest via the Martlets website and the charity will link you up with a participating solicitor who will draw up a will in return for a donation of £150 for a single Will or £250 for a joint Will. Drawing up a Will can cost up to £700, so this represents a significant saving.

Booking opens on April 1 and closes on April 30, however you can register your interest on the website from today. Appointments will take place throughout May.

There is no obligation for people taking part in Will Writing Month to leave anything to Martlets in their Will. However, every penny raised via Will Writing Month will enable Martlets to continue supporting people facing the toughest of times. The charity provides free care and support for people living with terminal illness and their families across Brighton & Hove, the Deans and Havens.

Grant Phillips, Gifts in Wills and Grants Executive at Martlets, says:

“We understand that thinking about what happens after you are gone isn’t easy. However, getting your Will professionally written means that you’ll have peace of mind that your wishes will be followed and that the people or causes you care about most are going to benefit.

“Will Writing Month is the perfect opportunity to get organised, whilst also helping raise funds for Martlets to provide life-changing hospice care.”

Register interest via the form on the Martlets web page (www.martlets.org.uk/give-in-your-will/), by emailing Grant Phillips on [email protected] or by calling 01273 916960.
