Evidence-Based Parenting From Toddler to Pre-Teen By [Brighton-based author] Matilda Gosling

A comprehensive guidebook on effective parenting, underpinned by high-quality, contemporary research. Written by an experienced research professional, it distils hard evidence on what works into simple, practical and accessible ideas for busy parents.

‘This is the book that every parent needs. These days parents often feel disempowered by mental health professionals who give advice that often feels counter-intuitive and seldom seems to be supported by evidence. Matilda Gosling has done the work for us as she has studied the vast research that is out there about parenting and distilled her knowledge into practical and doable suggestions. This book will help parents to figure out what the research actually says when it comes to parenting and equip parents to make parenting decisions from a place of knowledge and confidence’ - Stella O'Malley, author of Bully-Proof Kids

• Draws directly on over one thousand studies and indirectly on thousands more to create an evidence based reference manual for busy parents
• Parenting promotes a parent-centric approach – the parent is encouraged as the expert on their child – with positive strategies for parents and a focus on things that can be changed
• For parents of children from two to pre-teen
• The research is clearly labelled in terms of its quality, allowing parents to choose ideas both according to the strength of the evidence base behind them and their expert knowledge of their own children
• Parenting includes focused approaches for supporting your child with specific outcomes, including relationship building, physical health, learning and play, behaviour, happiness and well-being

A search for ‘parenting’ returns over a billion unique hits on Google. How can parents know which approaches actually work to support their children to be happy, healthy and fulfilled while maintaining their own sanity? That’s where Parenting comes in. It provides parents with the knowledge they need to make effective parenting decisions in the context of their own families. It cuts through the noise of advice and experts to offer parents clear, actionable, research-based recommendations.

Evidence-Based Parenting: From Toddler to Pre-Teen proposes that what works in parenting cuts across different philosophies and concepts. It draws on a wealth of research to create a single evidence base and reference manual for parents. The knowledge base informing the book is vast, covering subjects such as child development, family systems, relationships, mental health and genetics. This has been condensed, for the first time, into straightforward ideas to support children’s relationships, physical health, learning and play, behaviour, and happiness and well-being.
