Freya is a Staffordshire midwife who has recently published her first book called Baby Without Bankruptcy.
The lasting feeling I got after reading this book is that Freya cares deeply about families, the planet and being true to your own values. This last one can be hard at any time, but when entering the world of parenthood for the first time there is immense pressure to create a ‘perfect’ environment and a ‘perfect’ family, with a lot of marketing messaging suggesting you can achieve this by buying all the latest gadgets.
Freya calls out this constant commercial pressure and encourages parents and parents-to-be to plan and buy with awareness and intention instead.
The book is written in a friendly, no-nonsense tone and broken into accessible sections making it easy to read from cover to cover, or just dip into. It has lots of practical advice, sorting the essentials from the really not necessary, along with some brilliant tips such as alternative ideas for baby showers, birthday parties, and days out with all the joy but without the big costs.
As a mum of three it made me smile to read her tip of imagining it’s your third baby when thinking if you really need something to be brand new, or even if you need it at all – it’s so true and I wish someone had told me that!
Baby Without Bankruptcy is not a book about doing without, but rather avoiding unnecessary spending, and making decisions that feel right for you, your family, and the planet.
Baby Without Bankruptcy is available at Amazon.
