Ewell Castle Tennis Academy Awarded Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) 2022 Surrey ‘Tennis School of the Year’

The LTA (Lawn Tennis Association responsible for the administration and development of tennis throughout Surrey), have just awarded Ewell Castle Tennis Academy the prestigious LTA 2022 Surrey Tennis ‘School of the Year’ Award, heralding Ewell Castle Tennis Academy as one of the most successful tennis schools in the UK. They have recognised the dedicated and caring team of professionals, led by Elizabeth McManus (Head of the Tennis Academy and joint Head of Sixth Form), Tom Burn (Head Coach) and Tennis Development Manager, Alison Battista, who all ensure that academy pupils are at the centre of every decision taken.
The Ewell Castle Tennis Academy is a scholarship scheme for girls and boys at the Senior School who have the potential to become professional tennis players. The Tennis Academy, currently ranked 7th in the UK, includes pupils playing at county and national level, delivering high level tennis coaching alongside an independent school tailored curriculum. Each year, academy players take part in the LTA Youth Schools Tennis Programme and ISTA. They are currently the winners of the Surrey Open League, Surrey Boys Winter Cup, U14 ISTA Nationals, 12U Boys’ Surrey Festival, 14U Boys’ Surrey Festival and 16U Boys’ Surrey Festival.

The academy Head Coach is renowned coach and former player Tom Burn, who reached an ATP best 550 and went on to become part of Eugenie Bouchard’s coaching team as she made it to the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Final.

School Principal Silas Edmonds remarked: “The entire School Community is rightly proud of what our pupils and staff on the Tennis Academy have achieved in just a short number of years, and we are thrilled with this recognition by the Lawn Tennis Association and Surrey Tennis. The Academy Team combines the strengths of individually tailored timetabling and educational planning, with tailored tournament planning competition consultancy and the all-important elite tennis training package. Additional support is given to players with applications to top US and UK universities with dedicated tennis programmes. We encourage families with a child currently playing at county level or above, to join us.”
