More than 100,000 tulips are waiting to wow you at RHS Garden Wisley in a beautiful springtime spectacle. Bursting into bloom from now (late March) and flowering through April, the brand-new displays transform one of RHS Wisley’s most iconic views, the historic Old Laboratory building and Jellicoe Canal.
Celebrating the joyous spring beauty of tulips, the vibrant mass plantings and pot displays feature 58 gorgeous different tulip cultivars combined in mesmerising colour effects. A rich mix of tulip varieties have been planted, chosen for their bold colours, shapes and staggered flowering times. A cheerful mixture of yellow, orange and white Fosteriana tulips known for their large wide flowers fill the raised lawns outside the Old Laboratory whilst a combination of white, pink and lilac varieties cover the Sundial Lawn. Tulip filled pots also welcome visitors, adding bursts of colour at key entrance points throughout the garden.
Christopher Young, Garden manager RHS Garden Wisley said: “Inspired by the spectacular tulip display on the Glasshouse Landscape in 2023, the opportunity to recreate that magic and inspiration in front of our iconic Laboratory was too much of a temptation.”
You can also head to the Trials Garden to discover a further 92 tulip cultivars being assessed in an RHS Plant Trial. A selection of Darwin hybrid, viridiflora and late single tulips, including new cultivars and well-known favourites, are being grown side-by-side to judge their performance.
