‘Give it a go’ in your school or early years setting this Healthy Eating Week, says the British Nutrition Foundation

Healthy Eating Week is an annual awareness week organised by the British Nutrition Foundation to raise awareness of good nutrition and healthy eating. Each year the Foundation encourages schools and early years settings to get involved to engage children and young people in healthy diets and lifestyles.

This year, Healthy Eating Week takes place from the 10 – 14 June 2024 and with the overall theme Give it a go! Whether that means having one extra portion of fruit or vegetables a day, being a bit more active, experimenting with a new recipe or using up leftovers – Healthy Eating Week 2024 is all about giving it a go!

During the week, the British Nutrition Foundation will be providing free, evidence-based resources that contain helpful support, advice, and tools to support schools and early years settings to highlight and celebrate healthy living. There are five key themes during the week:

Monday: Get at least 5 A DAY

Tuesday: Stay hydrated.

Wednesday: Move more

Thursday: Focus on fibre

Friday: Reduce food waste

For each theme, there are key ‘hero’ resources including posters and activities for those short on time, and a suite of worksheets, recipes and challenges to explore the themes further. You could even make a video clip to show how you are getting involved.

Claire Theobald, Education Services Manager at the Foundation said: “Taking part in Healthy Eating Week is a great way to get children to engage and learn about healthier lifestyles and demonstrate a whole school approach to health and wellbeing. With a variety of free resources for early years, primary and secondary, there’s something for everyone. It’s our 12th Healthy Eating Week this year, and we hope that more schools and nurseries than ever will join us to Give it a go!”
