Steyning Gardens<\/a>

Steyning is a lively market town on the edge of the South Downs, home to many artists and crafts people. The three gardens open are all very different. Brambletye is a south facing garden designed with a prairie effect to attract birds and pollinators. It is planted with bulbs, shrubs, herbaceous perennials, and roses, and a small sunken area with raised beds for vegetables and herbs. Nightingale House has a recently designed cottage style garden with both perennials and annuals. There is an attractive greenhouse and a bespoke metal screen covered in roses and clematis. 15 Penlands
\nRise is a small cottage garden that has evolved into a series of borders and island beds, with narrow paths in between. There are roses, clematis, many salvias and perennials, and a collection of over 100 pots, some with hydrangeas, but most filled with a colourful mix of annuals and tender plants.<\/p>\n

Occasionally garden openings are cancelled please always check on the NGS website<\/a> before visiting a garden.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors The National Garden Scheme have donated over \u00a377.8 million to nursing and health charities and in 2025 made an annual donation of over \u00a33.8 million. The core beneficiaries include Carers Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK, Parkinson\u2019s UK and The Queen\u2019s Institute of Community Nursing.<\/p>\n

The National Garden Scheme doesn\u2019t just open beautiful gardens for charity \u2013 they are passionate about the physical and mental health benefits of gardens too. They also support charities doing amazing work in gardens and health and grant bursaries to help community gardening projects.<\/p>\n
