Orignially a tuberculosis sanatorium, it was officially opened in 1906 by His Majesty King Edward VII. The estate was designed by renowned architects Charles Holden, Percy Adams, and Gertrude Jekyll, who were part of the influential Arts &amp; Crafts movement. The estate\u2019s design and landscaping were both by Gertrude Jekyll, who created the beautiful gardens that are now part of the estate\u2019s appeal.
