Arundel Castle is delighted to announce that its Characters Through History events are returning this October half term, on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th October 2025.
Families, history fans and curious minds can experience the sights, sounds and stories of the 12th century as the Castle grounds will be filled with the atmosphere of medieval England, with costumed historical interpreters bringing to life key figures from Arundel’s Norman past. From a crusader and knight to an archer and the Master Falconer, guests can expect engaging encounters that open a window into the Castle’s early years, shaped by siege, strategy and survival.
Alongside interactive character encounters, visitors can enjoy live craft and weapon demonstrations and listen to lively tales from a travelling storyteller. Wandering musicians Myal and Peg will set the historic scene with traditional tunes played on authentic instruments.
For budding young archers (ages 8+), a supervised hands-on archery activity will also offer a thrilling taste of medieval training. Food and drink will be available from the Castle’s café and tea terrace, or guests are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy within the scenic grounds as autumn colours reach their peak.
Andrew Lewis, Castle Manager at Arundel Castle, explains more about the event: “Our Characters from History events offer visitors a direct connection to Arundel’s past – not just through the setting, but through the people who shaped its early story. The 12th century was a formative period for the Castle, marked by siege and survival. So, if you’re looking for something different to do with the family in the October half-term, this event brings that history to life in a way that’s both informative and fun.”
Tickets for the Characters Through History days are available at www.arundelcastle.org and are priced from £16 per adult and £7.50 per child. Children under five years old can enter for free.
