| | Arundel Castle will close its doors for the winter season on Sunday 1st November 2026, but there is still plenty of time for visitors to enjoy one of England’s most iconic landmarks. From exploring its award-winning gardens to taking in the history and grandeur of its carefully restored state rooms, highlights of the closing weeks include: - Half-term history fun – the Castle grounds come to life on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October with a dramatic 12th-century re-enactment at the Characters Through History event. Expect knights in armour, siege stories, a Master Falconer, musicians, hands-on crafts, and even the chance to try your skills at archery (aged 8+).
- Historic Houses Garden of the Year winner – renowned for their splendour, the gardens at Arundel Castle offer a wonderful variety of landscapes and environments, from the quirky Stumpery and the Italian terraces of the Earl’s Garden to the tranquil White Garden and the warmth of the restored glasshouses. Wander the 28 acres of award-winning gardens to enjoy explosions of autumn colours, scent and biodiversity.
- 2026 Exhibition – this year’s exhibition of ‘Queen Victoria & The Dukes of Norfolk’ documents the Queen’s long friendship with the four generations of Arundel Castle Dukes during her reign, including her visit to the Castle in 1846, and the organisation of her funeral by the 15th Duke in 1901.
- State rooms – take a tour and soak up the grandeur of the Castle’s state rooms, including the richness of the Regency Library, the splendour of the Barons’ Hall, and the decorative Drawing Room. Step inside Queen Victoria’s state bedroom, which has been meticulously restored to its original 19th-century iconic royal interior.
- World-class art and historic treasures – view the Castle’s unique collections including works of art by Van Dyck, Gainsborough, Canaletto and Reynolds, alongside rare tapestries, furniture and artefacts gathered by the 14th Earl of Arundel.
- Breathtaking views – climb the Castle’s Norman Keep for panoramic views of the Sussex countryside and the autumn colours in their full glory.
- Seasonal fare – choose from the tea terrace in the gardens or the Castle coffee shop and relax with a homemade soup, gourmet sausage roll, renowned Castle-made scone, or Knight’s Blend coffee – the perfect autumn pick-me-up.
