Entertain the whole family at Arundel Castle’s History Days this August

Families looking for an unforgettable day out during the summer holidays can journey through centuries of adventure as Arundel Castle’s much-loved History Days return on Thursday 6th and Thursday 13th August 2026.

Set against the spectacular backdrop of one of Sussex’s most iconic castles, these immersive events bring history to life with a packed programme of hands-on activities, captivating performances and larger-than-life historical characters to delight visitors of all ages.

Families can meet everyone from fearless Norman knights and skilled medieval archers to swashbuckling pirates, while children can put their courage and coordination to the test with axe throwing, archery, warrior training and the ever-popular kids battle.

There is plenty more to discover, with live storytelling, traditional music, face painting, the chance to meet a falconer, and a craft tent offering creative activities for children. Visitors can also learn more about the Castle’s remarkable past on a ‘Rebuilding the Castle’ tour, revealing the fascinating story behind one of England’s finest historic homes.

Food and drink will be available on-site from the Castle café, coffee shop, and tea terrace. Alternatively, visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic to enjoy in the stunning gardens.

Andrew Lewis, Castle Manager at Arundel Castle, said:

“Our History Days are all about giving families the opportunity to make special memories together while discovering the incredible stories of Arundel Castle. Rather than simply reading about history, children can step into it – meeting historical characters, trying traditional skills and taking part in exciting activities throughout the day.

“There’s plenty for adults to enjoy too, from exploring the Castle and its beautiful grounds to watching live performances and learning more about its fascinating past. It’s a full day of entertainment and discovery, offering excellent value with the activities included with garden entry and something to captivate every generation.”

Tickets for the History Days are available at www.arundelcastle.org, priced from £17.00 per adult, £8.00 for a child to include the grounds, gardens and activities, or from £29.00 per adult, £13.00 for a child and £71.00 for a family ticket to include entrance to the castle. Children under five years old can enter for free.
