Staggering Fundraising from Baby Sensory & Toddler Sense Classes to Fund Tommy’s Pregnancy Research Centre for Over a Year

Nationwide baby and toddler groups have raised over half a million for research into the prevention of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth

Multi award-winning preschool classes, Baby Sensory, and Toddler Sense, have collectively raised more than £518,000 for Tommy’s, a pregnancy charity that funds vital research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth in a bid to save more lives. The total money raised by the popular classes, is enough to fund a Tommy’s pregnancy information and support service for over a year, enabling scientists to continue their important live-saving work.

This year, the funds were raised as part of a nationwide campaign, Tommy’s Sensathon, in partnership with Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense franchises across the UK. The Hawaiian themed initiative, Aloha! saw little ones dress up in their hula skirts and Hawaiian shirts and complete several sponsored themed challenges at the popular baby and toddler classes, which were specially created for Tommy’s by founder of Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense, Dr Lin Day.

The children engaged in a variety of activities designed to enhance development and enjoyed Hawaiian themed music, while they surfed the waves with ‘Pip the Pup’, won prizes and were awarded special certificates for completing some challenges.

Sean McKeon, Managing Director at Baby Sensory commented, “We are over the moon to have raised such an incredible amount of money for Tommy’s again this year. We are thankful to our wonderful parent community and their amazing children for the fantastic response to our special Aloha! classes and for their huge efforts with costumes and sponsorships. We know what a difference this funding makes to people’s lives every day, and that is what makes this achievement feel so rewarding.”

Since the first Sensathon was launched back in 2014, Baby Sensory has raised almost £2 million for the free service, which includes expert advice and a helpline run by Tommy’s midwives to provide support and reassurance to thousands of people across the UK who are planning for, or are worried about, pregnancy. This year’s total stands at an incredible £518,303.

Tommy’s is a national charity that works tirelessly to reduce the UK’s rates of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. One in four pregnancies ends in loss during pregnancy or birth. Tommy’s believes that every baby lost is one too many.  It funds pioneering medical research to discover the causes of baby loss and helps people and families at every stage of their pregnancy journeys, supporting them with expert information and care.
