Top Sleep Tips for the Heatwave

In the UK we are finally seeing some much-deserved sunshine. However, for parents of newborns, babies and toddlers, this can be a bit of a nightmare as babies struggle to get to sleep, stay asleep and stay cool during those long hot nights.

Stokke (www.stokke.com) sleep expert, Heidi Skudder - founder of Positively Parenthood (www.positivelyparenthood.com) has shared her top tips which we hope might help you:

  1. Keep curtains and blinds down in the daytime so that sunlight doesn't heat the bedroom.
  2. Use a fan to help circulate air in the evenings as well as opening windows. If leaving a fan on overnight, ensure it's not pointing directly at baby.
  3. A frozen water bottle in front of the fan can help the room feel a little cooler, or have a cold or frozen flannel nearby too.
  4. Offer your toddler water (or extra milk or breastmilk if they're younger) before bed and overnight if they're waking up. It's a go with the flow approach to sleep for the next few nights!
  5. Homemade frozen lollies or cold fruit to suck on will increase smiles on faces and help with dealing with the heat.
  6. Make sure they are wearing appropriate clothes for bed in this weather - which really is going to be very little, if anything at all - depending on the room temperature.

Stokke has a beautiful range of sleep products for your nursery, including the Stokke Sleepi Bed V3 - the crib that grows with your child, giving you maximum air circulation for the best night's sleep. Available from newborn to the age of 5.
