I’ve added some tweaks though and enlisted my 6 year old Head Chef to help with this one.

Home made burgers are easy and they taste amazing, plus everyone can get involved making it a fun bit of family time, prepping and cooking.

I’ve made them with turkey mince and pork mince but have reverted to beef mince with this recipe. If you’re using beef then forget the diet and go for a high fat content, the higher content makes for a juicier burger. I’ve also discovered the best secret ingredient is a good splash of worcestershire sauce.

We often make our own chips in the air fryer but to save time on this occasion we’ve cheated and used oven chips and onion rings.

If you have time to make your own chips then it’s as easy as peeling (or not) and cutting the potatoes to your preferred size and tossing them in olive oil, salt. and pepper. A little bit of smoked parika adds a little something extra.

Put them in the air fryer for 15 mins (giving them a shake intermittently). Alternatively spread them on a preheated baking tray and oven at 210c for around 25 mins.

All of these ingredients are interchangeable so just use what you feel like. Get your hands in and squeeze it all together for a few minutes. When thoroughly combined take some handfuls and shape them into even sized large balls. Putting each one aside.

Heat a large non stick frying pan (medium/high heat) and then add the burger balls. Once they’re all in, use a heavy implement to firmly but gently smash them into a thinner patty. Be careful not to break them up. The bigger the patty, the jucier it will be, but they will take longer to cook.

Sear the burgers on both sides and then turn down the heat and let them cook for around 10-15 mins, turning every few minutes. In the meantime, lightly warm the burger baps in the oven or toaster and prepare your toppings. In our case, sliced gherkins, sliced onion, iceberg lettuce, tomato, burger sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup (or whatever sauce you fancy) and serve with your chosen side or just on their own.

Enjoy!!!

*Please ensure children are supervised at all times when helping and this recipe doesn’t take into account allergens.
