On Saturday, 25th May, The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle commenced its season with the unveiling of the brand-new theatre structure on the picturesque Two Sisters\u2019 Lawn.<\/p>\n
This new open-air theatre was constructed following severe storm damage in July 2023. The upgraded theatre features several enhancements, including a continuous roof that ensures every seat is now under cover, the clear roof structure provides an uninterrupted viewing experience regardless of the weather and a unique, immersive out-door while undercover atmosphere for all attendees.<\/p>\n
Running from May to September the season promises the most extensive and diverse programme in the theatre\u2019s history. Alongside returning festival favourites, many new artists and events have been added.<\/p>\n
In collaboration with the Castle’s curatorial team and Historian Dr. Owen Emmerson, the festival will host its first four-day deep-dive into Tudor history. Live on the Loggia international DJ Marcel Mendez will be playing tracks from Ibiza\u2019s Summer of Love for the festival\u2019s first Silent Disco.<\/p>\n
The music of legendary artists is celebrated with a series of tribute acts from classic rock to contemporary pop. The Taylor Swift Show, Strictly Dan, The Simon and Garfunkel Story, The Beatles for Sale and direct from London\u2019s West End Whitney Queen of the Night are amongst the performances paying homage to some of the most influential musicians of our time.<\/p>\n
Renowned for its vibrant jazz scene, Ronnie Scott\u2019s Club brings its iconic sound to the festival. Expect mesmerizing performances from some of the best jazz musicians in the world including The Soul Family featuring Natalie Wiliams. Classical music lovers can enjoy Mozart\u2019s The Magic Flute from Wild Arts Opera Company and the festival would not be complete without The Last Night of the Hever Proms.<\/p>\n
The festival caters to all ages with a range of family-friendly activities. From classic tales; Peter Pan and The Horrible Histories, to wonderful puppetry in Out of the Hat and Top Secret\u2019s Magic of Science. The Festival Theatre returns to Chiddingstone Castle with The Wind in the Willows and The Circus of Curiosities which amongst circus based shows includes the chance to take part in circus skills workshops and explore the castle\u2019s very own curiosities.<\/p>\n
The stage will light up with laughter for a series of comedy plays this year beginning with P.G Wodehouse\u2019s uproarious adventure with Jeeves & Wooster, followed by Blackadder<\/strong>,<\/strong> based on the iconic British television series. Fans of the sharp-witted and hilariously cynical Edmund Blackadder will not want to miss this hilarious adaptation and the mesmerising The Duke\u2019s Theatre Company perform Shakespeare\u2019s most famous and quotable comedy, As You Like It.<\/p>\n
