Sunflower Brookside Community Café Opens

The Madeley Wellbeing Community Café has a new name and location: welcome to the Sunflower Brookside Community Café!

Join the team for their grand opening on 3rd November at the Brookside Community Centre. This family-friendly venue is focused on community, serving up delicious, locally sourced food while actively tackling food waste.

The community café offers both preventative and responsive support to individuals, enabling them and their families to live well and safely in their community. Individuals are able to develop their independence skills and receive information, advice, and support about daily living.

The community café provides:

  • A bespoke training and employability programme, providing people furthest away from the job market opportunity to enhance their skills, including young people with an additional need, adults with disabilities, unpaid family carers, people without a permanent address and those in need of support with their mental health and wellbeing.
  • An environment to provide bespoke training programmes for cooking on a budget, cooking for independent living, carer cooking courses, dementia awareness, safeguarding, food hygiene and any others based upon local need. A safe environment to decrease social isolation.
  • A safe environment to access free meals to those who need one
  • Inter-generational work (opportunities for older and young people to mix)
  • Children’s birthday parties for low-income families.

We are also pleased to confirm that the after-school club and the autistic cookery course will both be resuming. Please note that the cookery course is only available to clients registered with the Telford Autism Hub and pre booking is essential.

The café is supported by local businesses and volunteers, collaborating together and delivered by Telford and Wrekin CVS and associated wellbeing partners.

Telford and Wrekin CVS’s vision for the café is for it to be sustainable moving forwards towards the future. The model of delivery is one where we want to empower communities to care for each other, to build community provisions across the borough and ensure people are well and healthy.
