When I had my first child it was not initially the happy, life-enriching experience I had hoped for and I certainly didn’t look or feel like the radiant new mums in the magazines! After years of being at work I found myself lonely, isolated and suffering from postnatal depression with no idea about where to go or what to do with my new baby or how to meet other new mums. Some years later, while looking for a business opportunity, I came across the Family Grapevine and it was a real ‘light bulb’ moment! I knew from my work with local children and their parents that there was still a great need for a good source of local information for families where everything was easy to find and all in one place…I couldn’t believe my luck!
In 2008, with no publishing experience, and after what can only be described as a nervous start, I published my first edition for West Notts and despite a very steep learning curve, have never looked back. I have now been joined by my friend and colleague, Cathy, and together, with the unfaltering support of Nikki , Genevieve and the other editors in the group, we now publish a second edition for families in East & South Notts/Nottingham as well.
We know from the positive feedback from parents that we are making a difference to family lives and I wish I had had a Family Grapevine when my children were growing up! To make a difference to families and local businesses is amazing. To have my own business while enjoying the shared support and expertise of a great group of people is just the best!
