About the Course
This 3-day holiday course is designed for children in Key Stage 3 (Year 7, 8 and 9) who have a passion for writing. It focuses on descriptive writing, covering the many different techniques involved (such as synonyms, figurative language and sound devices) and the many different forms that it comes in: descriptions of places, people, objects and experiences; non-fiction, fiction and poetry; descriptive passages and interwoven description. We explore these topics through a wide variety of enjoyable activities, striking a good balance between writing tasks and ‘skills builder’ activities. There are lots of opportunities for the children to share and receive feedback on their work.

About the Course Leader
My name is Ruby Cooper. In 2015, I achieved a first-class BA in English and Related Literature at The University of York. Since April 2017, I’ve been working at The Weald Community School, delivering literacy intervention lessons to small groups of Year 7s, 8s and 9s.  I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate (Disclosure and Barring Service, formerly Criminal Records Bureau or CRB).
