Inspired by the recent television series ‘Old People’s Home for Four Year Olds’, Lingfield College has introduced a similar scheme in their Foundation Stage.
The Channel 4 programme followed a group of preschool children and 11 pensioners who were welcomed into their classroom. The mutual benefits for both children and older people was clearly evident as the series progressed.
This week, the Lingfield Nursery and Reception children welcomed Lingfield Seniors into their classrooms. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit. They loved chatting to the seniors as well as asking a lot of questions! The children were full of chatter and delighted in telling the seniors all about themselves; sharing news of their time so far in their new classes and discussing their favourite fruits for snack time! The seniors were brilliant with the children and even helped to create 3D versions of our Take One Picture ‘Four Hearts’ by Jim Dine, using playdough, beads and sequins.
Mrs Dawn Wild, Foundation Stage Leader said, “The children were thrilled to interact with our new visitors. This initial trial was so successful, we are now establishing this as a regular activity in the Lingfield Foundation Stage.”
