Cumnor House Sussex pupils returned with a tally of four medals – two gold, one silver and one bronze – from the National Schools Athletics Championships staged at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.
Katie Bradley, competing in the U13 Girls Shot Put, threw over a metre further than any other competitor with a distance of 9m 11cm to secure her gold medal. In the U14 Girls Triple Jump, Mabel Pickard also struck gold achieving a distance of 9.67m. Katie then went on to collect her second medal, silver, in the U13 Girls Discus and Alfie Slatter secured his bronze medal after clearing an impressive 1.38m in the U12 Boys High Jump.
“It really was a great day for us at Birmingham – the culmination of a lot of hard work by the children and a great season of Athletics for Cumnor” commented Craig Burgess, Director of Sport at Cumnor House Sussex. “Fifteen of our athletes qualified to compete at the Nationals this year and they all did themselves proud – every one of them coming within the top 15 in the country of their qualifying sport.”
