Modelling the winning ‘Woodland Crown’ for the Copthorne Flower and Produce Show is 6 year old Sorcha Chapman. Although she did say it was ‘a bit prickly’, Sorcha and her friends loved making their woodland crown as part of the new Forest Schools lessons at Copthorne Prep. The school also entered the photography, lego garden and chocolate cake competitions and won rosettes for all their entries!
Forest Schools is now on the curriculum for all Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children … and is already a great success with the children and parents. ”It’s so good to see kids learning more about nature and all those precious outdoor skills rather than just spending time on iPads and computers’, commented one parent after a Forest Schools Family Fun Day in the school’s woods. Head of Pre-Prep & Nursery, Susie Swadling, added: ‘the enthusiasm that the children are showing for these outdoor lessons is wonderful; they are already feeling more confident in their learning about trees, woodland animals and using their senses and creative talents in a huge variety of ways’.
Copthorne Prep’s next Open Morning is Saturday 8 October, where many of the Forest Schools creations will be on display!
