With a National Park in every corner of the UK, ViewRanger is helping the nation discover some of England, Wales and Scotland’s most incredible scenery. And with summer solstice – the longest day of the year – taking place on Monday (20 June), what better excuse to explore?
The free-to-download outdoor guide, mapping and navigation app offers walking routes by location, so all users have to do is type in the name of a place in one of the UK’s 15 National Parks to find a host of walks to choose from.
Craig Wareham, ViewRanger co-founder, said: “Summer solstice makes the perfect opportunity to explore one of our National Parks and discover all that the area has to offer.
“A walk, cycle or horse ride is a brilliant way to get to know a place and always makes for a memorable day out. ViewRanger makes it easier to find a route that’s right for you and your family.”
National Parks stretch across the UK and include the Lake District, South Downs, New Forest and the Peak District – whose stone circles are often visited during summer solstice. This year it takes place on Monday, when there will be a mammoth 16 hours of daylight
Craig added: “That means this weekend is the perfect time to make the most of our National Parks.
“There really is something for everyone with routes rated from easy to hard, so whether you’re outdoors regularly or just looking to explore, you’ll easily discover a route that helps you make the most of these beauty spots.”
Route publishers on ViewRanger include the National Trust, BBC Countryfile Magazine, Walking World and MBUK mountain biking magazine to name a few. Plus many of the National Parks also publish their own routes, so it’s like having your own park ranger with you!
Photographs, waypoint information, and other helpful content for each route are included within the digital route guides. Route guides and maps are downloaded and stored on the mobile device, so no mobile network signal is required to use the app out on the trail.
ViewRanger can also be used to record walks, rides, and other adventures which can later be shared with friends and family via social media or email.
