Pirates and Peacocks delight at the Cuckoo Fayre

cockoo fair 413cockoo fair 417The Dog Show at the Cuckoo Fayre on Bank Holiday Monday proved a real crowd puller.

Over 70 dogs competed for prizes and rosettes in this regular event staged by the award winning team from The Mewes Vets.

Cute puppies, shiny coats and waggy tails drew laughter and sighs from the large crowd of on-lookers. They were entertained by the Best Tricks category, won by a large collie who cheerfully climbed into a laundry bag for his owner to carry him away!

But the highlight of the afternoon was the hotly contested Fancy Dress competition. From blushing bride to cops and robbers, pirates to peacocks, the imaginative outfits impressed. However, judge Julia Mewes, Director of The Mewes Vets Ltd gave first prize to Bo-Peep, and May the cockerpoo who appeared as a shorn sheep.

“It was an impossible task to pick winners from such a line-up,” Julia said. “They had all put in so much effort, and looked amazing. It was a wonderful afternoon.”

The Best in Show was taken by Cutest Puppy, Bonnie, the Golden Retreiver.

Their next family friendly event will be a Faery themed Dog Walk at Beechurst, Haywards Heath on Sunday August 16th.

The Mewes Veterinary Clinic is an independent practice based at 4 Haywards Road and has been established in Haywards Heath for 19 years.
