AW Dance Arts, is a long established school in the Effingham and Horsley area, having an impressive back catalogue of theatrical and examination successes. Run by London West End performer and Royal Academy teacher Amanda, the school offers mentoring for every pupil, in order for them to reach realistic goals. Amanda spends her full time working carefully with all age groups at the school, especially with the younger children. Classes are kept small for pupils to gain the technical groundwork that they need, and the dedication that goes into developing confidence and ambition.
Singing is starting to take off in a big way. Dancers need to sing, often moving at full speed, so the methods that Amanda uses can build stamina as well as confidence.
Pupils are being selected for musicals such as ‘Matilda’ whilst business people are enjoying a ‘guilty pleasure’ but finding that the practice benefits their presentation speaking.
‘Our approach is to develop the voice in its natural placement so as to speak and sing in the safest way. Musicals these days require several changes of singing style within a short space of time and our method achieves this very quickly, avoiding strain and sometimes astounding pupils as to what sort of vocal power and clarity they really have. We help pupils to produce and record CD’s and offer an audition preparation service too. Musical Theatre, Rockschool and ABRSM syllabi can be followed but we really enjoy helping those who have doubt in their ability or have a vocal problem that we can solve.’
The school also offers a one-year ‘quick boost’ course for teenagers wanting to be accepted into Universities and Conservatoires who need help in classical dance, tap etc.
Four of the school’s student are turning professional from September and the school plans a Summer Gala to celebrate!
Dance classes begin from age 2 ½ to adult. Singing/piano/music sequencing from rising 5 years upwards.
