Guildford’s only independent children’s clothing shop opened its doors at 7 Tunsgate in November. Owned by Gemma Payne, Little Beau specialises in high-quality clothing for babies and children up to 8 years old.
Previously located in Cranleigh, the new store is significantly bigger than its predecessor, and also sells a selection of toys, books and greetings cards.
Being a mum, Gemma’s philosophy is to only stock brands that she has road-tested on her own two children, to ensure that they stand up to the rigours of everyday washing and wearing. Products she favours tend to come from smaller and more ethical brands, as she finds that the quality and design outrival the mass-produced high-street labels. As she says, “The clothing has to be practical, durable and ideally made from 100% natural fibres. I hand pick items from each brand every season, so what my customers are seeing when they come in are the very best pieces out there; current favourites include Petit Bateau, Mini A Ture, Olive and Moss, Phister & Philina and Toffee Moon. Each and every customer will also receive a warm welcome and excellent personal service – something that can be lost in large chain stores.”
The new shop has quickly established itself as a popular stopping-off spot for mums and dads on their way into Guildford, and is ideally located at the top of Tunsgate. Gemma says, “The response so far has been phenomenal. Everyone has been so positive about our products and we are regularly seeing return customers. I really love our location too – Tunsgate is becoming a lovely little hotspot for independent shops.”
Little Beau is open Monday to Saturday 9.30 to 5.30 and Sunday 11-5pm and you can also shop online at www.littlebeau.co.uk.
