The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy has been operating around the world since 1979 and in the UK since 1994, with tens of thousands of youngsters benefiting from our structured learning programme already.
The benefits gained by our students are many, helping children develop excellent social skills they will need in everyday life, such as:
Being able to speak & move confidently
Answering in full sentences
Feeling good about themselves
Improving their confidence
Increasing their self esteem
Acting in plays
Working in group situations
Meeting new friends
Discussing social issues
Improving their listening skills
Encouraging English language skills.
In today’s technical society where everyone is constantly emailing, texting and relying on social networks, verbal communication skills face to face are becoming a lost art! Through our curriculum, speech is constantly at the forefront of the lesson along with encouraging the students to use their own ideas and imagination to help create different scenarios and enhance their plays.
The classes are all inclusive and non-competitive where fun is a key element. The lessons are taught by specially trained Helen O’Grady teachers, all of whom are Enhanced DBS checked and selected specifically for their dynamic, energetic and vibrant personalities.
The teachers meet with the Principal each term to discuss and workshop the curriculum.
A child can start with us at 5 years of age and continue through to 17 without ever repeating the same lesson, such is the unique format of our curriculum. It is constantly being revised and updated to ensure that it is age appropriate and relevant to the times.
It will sometimes include work relating to current the G.C.S.E. syllabus for the older students.
The Croydon branch runs classes for children across the borough and beyond, with studios in the following areas:
Beckenham/Eden Park*, Thornton Heath, Waddon, Purley*, Norbury, Wallington*, Croydon, Banstead*, Reigate*, Sanderstead*, West Wickham, Chipstead*, Upper Norwood* and Selsdon*.
All studios have Primary classes for children aged 5-12, and those marked * have our Youth Theatre classes for students from 12-17 years!
Our fees are charged on a termly basis, and our terms run alongside the academic terms (3 p/a)
We aim to keep our fees competitive and offer special discounts where 2 or more members of one family attend.
