“There is a box in the corner of the room, shining and eating up the gloom…”

But the enticing and seemingly innocent invitation to explore what is in the box is in fact a powerful warning about the perils of cyber-based child sexual exploitation online in today’s internet world.

A group of teenagers from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Outreach Team has worked with youth workers to produce a four-minute video which grips the viewer and provides a stark warning about internet safety.

The video was produced with help from the Real Adventure education team and video producer Ian Dearman with producer Suzanne Rose and youth worker Julie Slater.

The teenagers involved are: Romany Emingham, Luana Gregory, Owen Gregory, Kaci Bailey, Tyler Price, Mille Price and Angel Bailey. They are all members of the Sandy Lane outdoor adventure Group which takes part in various outdoor activities during the year including raft building and kayaking.
The group decided to embark on the video project to further develop their knowledge and skills and to highlight an issue they feel is extremely relevant to today’s teenagers.

The video has been produced with funding from the council’s outreach service and the Nottinghamshire Crime Commissioner’s office. It is hoped that the video will become an education resource for other teenagers.

Councillor Liz Plant, Vice-Chairman of the Children and Young People’s Committee, at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We are extremely proud of these young people who have highlighted this challenging issue in such a creative and professional way. It is a compelling video which serves a critical purpose to raise awareness of this issue and encourage children and families to be vigilant when using the internet.”

About Tiny Talkers

Tiny Talkers Day Nursery is a small, friendly day care provider, dedicated to ensuring the highest possible standards of care and education within a fun, stimulating and caring environment. As a 35 place nursery we have a warm, home-from-home atmosphere and really get to know the parents and children we care for.

Based in Roko Health Club, we are privately owned and open to all, but our partnership with Roko means that we have access to the health club facilities and can offer a wide range of different activities for the children in our care, including regular swimming sessions and use of the studio for music and movement.

Children attending Tiny Talkers come on a full-time or part-time basis, and we also accept children for funded only sessions though Nursery Education Funding. Children at the nursery can also access French lessons through our partnership with Little Linguists. There is a small additional charge for this service – to find out more go to http://www.little-linguists.co.uk/page09.asp

Our Ethos

We believe that all children are unique and we continually strive to provide the building blocks that each child needs to become an independent lifelong learner. We recognise children’s individual interests and developmental stages and use this to provide activities to build their confidence, creativity and independence.

At Tiny Talkers Day Nursery we place communication at the heart of everything that we do. We understand that communication is fundamental to every child’s development. Our highly trained staff provide the right environment to ensure that all children have the opportunity to become confident and competent communicators.

We are pleased to say that the majority of our day to day business comes through recommendations from our existing customer base. We strive to create a trusting bond between our staff and the children in their care and this important bond also applies to the parents who put their child into our specialist care for any of the services we provide. We welcome all feedback from our customers and continually look to improve our service wherever possible.

The Nursery is jointly owned by Sarah and Steve Bond who are both from professional backgrounds – Sarah from Education and Steve from Social Care.

Sarah has been in education all her working life both in the secondary and early year’s sector. A qualified teacher and trainer in Early Years, recently Sarah has specialised in promoting the importance of speech, language and communication in settings and schools across Leicestershire. Sarah is ‘hands on’ in the nursery and is committed to offering the best experiences for children and developing positive relationships with parents and carers

Steve continues to work in Social Care as service lead for children in care in Leicester. Although less hands on in the nursery Steve is fully involved in overseeing the management of the Nursery.

Our latest news

At Tiny Talkers we are always looking for ways to improve the service we provide. Some recent examples include

Our mud kitchen –  based in our outside area, our mud kitchen opened for business a couple of weeks ago and the children just love it! Mixing water, soil, grass, stones, leaves and anything else they can find on our nature walks, the children have made all sorts of weird and wonderful lotions, potions and concoctions! As one of our children said, “this is not just water, its made with mud and magic”!

Our finger print security system – we have recently had a new digital security system installed by Bio-Cam which works by allowing designated people access to the nursery via their scanned finger print. This gives us added security whilst allowing parents and carers to access the nursery without having to wait for the buzzer to be answered.

Our Facebook Page – to let everyone know about all the exciting things that we are doing, we have developed our own Facebook page. Here you will be able to see all our latest news, including pictures of our mud kitchen, music line, and even Winnie the Pooh having a work out in the Roko gym for charity! Just search on Facebook for Tiny Talkers Day Nursery, or go to www.facebook.com/tinytalkersdaynursery.
