Women’s Day to be celebrated at Gedling Borough Council

Women’s Day to be celebrated at Gedling Borough Council

To celebrate International Women’s Day, on Saturday 7 March, Gedling Borough Council is inviting women from around the borough to attend a free drop in event at the Civic Centre in Arnold.

Women are invited to come along between 10am and 4pm to meet with a range of organisations offering advice about health, training, employment and skills, leisure events, parenting support, crime reduction and benefits advice.

There will also be supervised play activities for young children and refreshments.

Councillor Roxanne Ellis, who is organising the event said:

“As a society we often seem to relegate women’s issues to the back burner. Although women make up over 50% of the UK population only 17% of board directors of FTSE 100 companies are women; only 1 in 4 MPs is a woman and the average pay gap between men and women is approximately 20%.

“International Women’s Day is an opportunity for women to come together, celebrate our successes and inspire each other to achieve more. I hope that the women who come to the event will leave with renewed enthusiasm and a feeling of sisterhood.”
