Arnold Leisure Centre will be relaunched with a grand opening and a free swim weekend.
Local residents can come along and use the new swimming facilities, including the new changing rooms, absolutely free at the open days on the 16,17 and 18 May.
The centre has undergone a £1.2 million refurbishment to the pool and changing facilities and it will be opened by local athletes James Crisp and Sasha Matthews on Friday 16 May at a ribbon cutting ceremony which will be attended by councillors, officers and the funding bodies.
The works to the leisure centre and theatre have been funded from three main sources; the council’s capital funding, Growth Point funding and money from Sport England.
As well as new changing rooms there has also been work done on the main reception area, the outside of the entrance as well as the refurbishment of the Bonington Theatre which opened earlier in the year.
To promote the opening of the centre, leisure staff will be in Arnold Town Centre on Friday 9 May handing out flyers and swimming goodies.
Leader of the Council, Councillor John Clarke said;
“This is a great boost for Arnold, we can now offer local residents a fantastic theatre, newly refurbished swimming facilities and a new car park, with free parking, across the road. We think that residents will be very pleased with the work that has been done and they will be able to enjoy the facilities for years to come.”
