New services for Armed Forces in Arnold

The Royal British Legion has announced a partnership with Gedling Borough Council which will place a Legion presence in the council office reception on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month.

This new service is part of nationwide changes recently undertaken by The Royal British Legion to make its welfare services more accessible to the Armed Forces past and present, and their families, across the UK.

The council office based at Arnot Hill Park, Arnold is one of a number of planned new outreach locations across the East Midlands which will offer a knowledgeable and dedicated support worker as a face-to-face point of contact for those in need of help and advice from the Legion.

The Legion service will be accessible at the Council Office 10am until 3.00pm. On the second and fourth Wednesday of the month commencing 23 April.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Michael Payne said;

‘We’re very pleased to invite the Royal British Legion to Gedling Borough Council, their presence reinforces the ongoing work we’re doing with our local partners to help support members of the Armed Forces. By offering our facilities here in Arnold, more members of the Armed Forces, past and present, can access the excellent services provided by the Royal British Legion”

Linda Flecknell, The Royal British Legion Area Manager for East Midlands area said:

‘The Legion is a national organisation but with a footprint in the local community across the East Midlands area. This latest partnership with Gedling Borough Council in Arnold shows our commitment to making our welfare services as accessible as possible to our beneficiaries across the region.’

‘The profile and needs of our beneficiaries are changing and access points such as this, together with our website and national helpline number, make it easier than ever before to contact the Legion to ask for help’.

As the nation’s leading Armed Forces charity, the Legion spends £1.6 million a week, or £84 million a year on vital welfare work, providing social, emotional and financial care and support to serving and ex-Service people and their families.
