Primary Team Maths Challenge 21014 at Dagfa School Nottingham

Primary Team Maths Challenge 21014 at Dagfa School Nottingham

dagfa house logoFor the second year running, Dagfa School hosted a Primary Team Maths Challenge using materials provided by the UK Maths Trust.  16 local primary schools attended the all-day event and enjoyed competing in a host of mathematical challenges.  Each school brought four year 6 pupils who would have to work together to complete all the challenges.

The rounds included a group round, a tricky cross-number where the teams had to split into pairs, a logic round, a speed round and a relay race.  The relay race involved pupils careering around the sports hall answering maths questions as quickly as they could before racing with the next question to their team mates.

The event was very well attended and all who participated enjoyed the day.  Dr Woodroffe would like to thank all the teachers from visiting schools who helped administer the challenge as well as his own staff and pupils.

The winners were Bramcote Church of England Primary School, who beat the runners up, South Wilford Primary School by one mark.  One of the members of the winning team remarked, “I like winning, but even if we hadn’t won I would have really enjoyed the day and the challenge that it brought.”

Dagfa’s team was comprised of Oliver Chowdury, Ella Kucukdurgut, Gabryl Oleshko and Sean Morrissey-Ralevic, standing in for Jaden Eyre who was unwell.

The event was a resounding success and it is great to see so many young people enjoying the challenge of maths.  We shall definitely be repeating the event next year.
