A free event to help smokers in Netherfield kick the habit takes place at the St George’s Centre on Victoria Road on Saturday (9 March).
The event organised by Gedling Borough Council and NHS New Leaf Nottinghamshire runs from 10am to 3.30pm and New Leaf will be providing free advice and support for smokers, free nicotine replacement products, health checks as well as a raffle prize draw, stalls, complimentary therapy sessions and an opportunity to try out gym equipment.
Around two thousand Netherfield residents are known to smoke, and have already been contacted by the council and the NHS and invited to attend the event.
The event is open to all local residents, there will be a number of activities and advice for anyone who wants to improve their health and wellbeing.
Councillor Jenny Hollingsworth, Portfolio Holder for Health and Housing said: “This is an opportunity for local people who may need encouragement to take steps towards improving their health and by joining other people from their local community it may help them to work together towards a healthier lifestyle”
Local GP, Dr Tony Marsh said: “In spite of all the modern technology one of the most effective and rewarding interventions is when we help a patient to stop smoking cigarettes. For a number of years events like this has helped scores of local people kick the habit, with huge benefits to their current and future health”.
