Hove Beach Park<\/strong>,\u00a0the \u00a313.7\u00a0million new seafront\u00a0park\u00a0stretching from the King Alfred Leisure Centre to Hove Lagoon, will be officially opened later this week.\u00a0<\/p>

Residents and visitors have already\u00a0been flocking to\u00a0the\u00a0park in their thousands as different sections\u00a0have been\u00a0completed\u00a0and opened for use.\u00a0<\/p>

This Friday (16 May)\u00a0Councillor Bella Sankey, Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, will officially open the\u00a0park \u2013 and kick-start a weekend of free activities to celebrate the occasion.\u00a0<\/p>

An opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will take place between midday and 1pm on Friday,\u00a0and at 6pm there will be\u00a0a padel exhibition game on the nearby courts.\u00a0<\/p>

On Saturday 17 May, there will be\u00a0an introduction to bowls session on the bowling green between 10.30am and 12.30pm, and\u00a0wheeled sports\u00a0jam\u00a0between midday and 4pm\u00a0on the pump track\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0wheeled sports\u00a0area.\u00a0<\/p>

Anyone interested in padel will be able to watch games on the courts and talk to coaches about the sport, which is one of the fastest growing in the UK.\u00a0<\/p>

On\u00a0Sunday 18 May,\u00a0a skate jam is being held at the skate plaza from 10am until 6pm and\u00a0an introduction to croquet drop-in session on the croquet lawn between midday and 4pm.\u00a0All ages are welcome.\u00a0<\/p>

Councillor Sankey\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cI am extremely proud and excited to be formally opening the first new park in the city\u00a0in more than\u00a0100 years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThis project has been evolving since 2018 through the work of local community organisations, particularly West Hove Seafront Action Group and West Hove Forum.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cWorking in partnership,\u00a0we\u00a0identified\u00a0underused facilities and green spaces on the seafront and developed a plan to reinvigorate this key area of the city.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThe result is a linear park with attractive spaces, better\u00a0biodiversity\u00a0and a range of recreational activities for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cHove Beach Park will be a landmark on Hove seafront,\u00a0a great\u00a0destination in its own right,\u00a0with\u00a0accessibility for all at the forefront of\u00a0the\u00a0design.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cFrom gardens and cafes to BMX, padel and sand sports, we have already had a\u00a0really positive\u00a0response to the park. I hope the exciting programme of events lined up for the opening weekend will give many more people the chance to discover and enjoy these great new facilities.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>

Hove Beach Park was originally launched as the Kingsway to the Sea project; the new name was decided\u00a0in\u00a0a public vote\u00a0in February 2024.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

The\u00a0park\u00a0facilities have been opening on a rolling basis\u00a0since September 2024, starting with the wheeled sports area.\u00a0This includes a skatepark,\u00a0a\u00a0150-metre-long\u00a0pump track and\u00a0a\u00a0600-square-metre\u00a0roller area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

Since then,\u00a0a new bowls clubhouse,\u00a0padel and tennis courts,\u00a0gardens\u00a0and new pathways\u00a0as well as\u00a0the outdoor sports hub, caf\u00e9 and public toilets have opened.\u00a0Meanwhile, the\u00a0existing croquet and bowls\u00a0lawns\u00a0have\u00a0reopened.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

The final element, the sand sports area, is expected to welcome its first visitors in August.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

Hove Beach Park\u00a0represents\u00a0an investment of\u00a0more than\u00a0\u00a313\u00a0million in the city, including \u00a39.6 million\u00a0in\u00a0funding from the UK government.<\/p>
