{"id":22751,"date":"2023-08-04T11:57:35","date_gmt":"2023-08-04T11:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefamilygrapevine.co.uk\/brighton-hove\/?p=22751"},"modified":"2023-08-08T08:42:52","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T08:42:52","slug":"unesco-launches-map-of-uk-sites-including-the-living-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefamilygrapevine.co.uk\/brighton-hove\/2023\/08\/04\/unesco-launches-map-of-uk-sites-including-the-living-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"UNESCO launches map of UK sites including The Living Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"et_pb_column et_pb_column_4_4 et_pb_column_0 et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough et-last-child\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_1 et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unesco.org.uk\/our-sites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A new map has been unveiled featuring all 58 United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) sites in the UK<\/a>.<br \/>\nThis includes Biospheres, Creative Cities, Global Geoparks and World Heritage Sites.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_2 et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p>The map, illustrated by artist Tom Woolley, was launched by UNESCO to raise awareness of the breadth of natural, cultural and built heritage sites throughout the country.<br \/>\nThe map features The Living Coast, our local UNESCO Biosphere that Brighton &amp; Hove and Lewes sit at the heart of, stretching from the South Downs to the coast, and from Shoreham-by-Sea to Newhaven.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_3 et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<h2>The Living Coast UNESCO Biosphere<\/h2>\n<p>The Living Coast was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2014. This recognises the region\u2019s outstanding natural environments \u2013 the South Downs, the towns and the coast.<br \/>\nThe Living Coast is <a href=\"https:\/\/thelivingcoast.org.uk\/partners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a partnership of over 40 organisations including business, conservation, education, voluntary, and local government partners, with Brighton &amp; Hove City Council as lead partner<\/a>. This partnership aims to connect people and nature to inspire a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_module et_pb_text et_pb_text_4 et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<h2>Internationally significant<\/h2>\n<p>James Bridge, Chief Executive and Secretary-General of the UK National Commission for UNESCO said:<br \/>\n\u201cThis new UNESCO in the UK map will inspire people for places to visit. It shows at a glance the breadth of amazing natural, cultural and built heritage designated by UNESCO as internationally significant in the UK.<br \/>\n\u201cThis great map highlights places to explore, on your doorstep and further afield, both the famous and those to discover for the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin Harris, chair of The Living Coast UNESCO Biosphere, said: \u201cWe are proud to be part of the UNESCO family with The Living Coast here in Sussex.<br \/>\n\u201cWe work with many local organisations to connect people and nature, and to enjoy the South Downs, the towns and the coast.
