Phoenix Media Marketing takes immediate action following national cybersecurity developments

Phoenix Media Marketing has announced that it is actively implementing precautionary website security updates following recent cybersecurity developments and guidance from the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

The announcement follows concerns surrounding vulnerabilities affecting PHP, the programming language supporting millions of websites worldwide, including WordPress websites.

Phoenix Media Marketing’s IT specialist is currently working on reviewing and implementing the latest appropriate PHP security updates across the company’s managed website infrastructure. This work is already underway as part of the agency’s commitment to protecting client websites and maintaining high standards of digital security.

Existing security infrastructure

Phoenix Media Marketing already operates a layered security approach, incorporating Wordfence security software alongside a robust UK-based hosting infrastructure.

These measures provide important additional protection, supported by ongoing technical management, monitoring and maintenance.

While existing security measures offer valuable safeguards, Phoenix recognises the importance of responding promptly to newly identified vulnerabilities and applying appropriate server updates.

Immediate action underway

Phoenix’s technical specialist is currently undertaking the following work:

  • Reviewing PHP versions across managed client websites.
  • Identifying and implementing applicable PHP security patches.
  • Checking website compatibility and performance.
  • Reviewing existing Wordfence protection and security configurations.
  • Monitoring developments and recommendations from the National Cyber Security Centre.
  • Coordinating with hosting providers where additional server-level changes are required.

Stuart Farrell-Humphrey, Managing Director of Phoenix Media Marketing, commented:

“Cybersecurity is an essential part of the service we provide to our clients, and we take our responsibilities extremely seriously.

Following this week’s developments and the guidance issued by the National Cyber Security Centre, we have acted immediately.

Our IT specialist is already working on the necessary updates and security checks across our managed website infrastructure.

We are fortunate to have robust UK hosting arrangements and Wordfence security protection already in place. However, we recognise that security requires continuous attention, and we will always take proactive measures to protect our clients’ interests.

Our priority is to ensure that the businesses trusting Phoenix with their online presence receive reliable, professionally maintained and appropriately protected website services.”

Our commitment to clients

Phoenix Media Marketing will continue monitoring developments and implementing appropriate security updates as part of its ongoing website management services.

Where maintenance could affect website availability, clients will be informed accordingly.

At this stage, the work is precautionary and forms part of our proactive approach to website security. It should not be interpreted as confirmation that any Phoenix-managed website has been compromised.
