After graduating with a first-class degree in advertising, graphic design, and illustration in 1997, Jim Smith was discovered by the owner of a small coffee shop chain, who invited him to decorate the walls of their flagship store. Initially a three-month contract, this opportunity led to a lasting partnership, and over twenty years later, Jim is now the Head of Design at Puccino’s Worldwide Ltd, a global coffee shop franchise with locations around the world.
In 2010, Jim introduced the Waldo Pancake line of stationery and gift products, which became a major success, selling across the UK, Australia, Singapore, Europe, and the US.
In 2012 Jim Smith released the first book in the ‘Barry Loser’ series, I am Not a Loser, with rights sold in nine countries. The sequel, I am Still Not a Loser, won the 2013 Roald Dahl Funny Prize. In 2017 Future Ratboy was awarded the Scholastic Laugh Out Loud Book Award.
