أفضل طريقة لربح أموال إضافية Libraries across Nottinghamshire are getting ready for another inspiring summer of reading with Animal Agents, Summer Reading Challenge 2017. Launching in all libraries on Saturday 15 July.
مراجعة إشارات التداول بالخيارات الثنائية The Summer Reading Challenge asks 4-11 year olds to borrow and read any six library books over the summer. This annual challenge is produced by The Reading Agency and run in libraries across the country.
It has a new theme each year and in 2017 children are invited to help the Animal Agents – a detective agency staffed by all kinds of clever animals – furry, scaly and slippery – who are out to crack a case at the library with a little help from their friends.
Tony Ross, the UK’s best-selling children’s illustrator (creator of the Little Princess books, illustrator of the Horrid Henry series by Francesca Simon, and of books by David Walliams and Claire Balding), has created this year’s exclusive artwork.
Children sign up at the library to pick up their free collector folder then read six library books to help the Animal Agents solve the mystery, collecting rewards (including very smelly stickers) along the way. Children choose the books they want to read on their Challenge; novels, fact books, joke books – as long as they are borrowed from the library all reading counts!
There’s a certificate and medal for every child who completes the challenge by reading 6 books.
Last year in Nottinghamshire 10,696 children took part. We hope even more will be inspired to take part this year.
Peter Gaw, Inspire’s Chief Executive commented; “The Summer Reading Challenge is a great scheme to encourage to children to keep up the reading habit over the summer, with research showing it can help prevent the ‘dip’ in reading that can occur over the long summer break. We also know from the feedback we receive each year from children and families that the challenge can inspire and enhance a love of reading which can support children through their school years and beyond.”
Councillor John Cottee, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Communities and Place committee added; “The summer reading challenge is a great way to encourage youngsters to read from an early age.
“I’m sure this year’s animal theme will capture the imagination and I hope that local young people will be making full use of their local libraries by borrowing and reading six books over the summer holidays.”
This year our Summer Reading Challenge launch coincides with the Inspire Poetry Festival. Inspire is delighted to welcome brilliant children poets Joseph Coelho and A. F Harrold who will dazzle children and families with amazing words and poetic performances on Saturday 15 July. The perfect start to our summer of reading.
There are lots of other activities running at libraries inspired by this year’s Animal Agents theme. Selected summer events are listed below.
West Bridgford and Retford libraries host a Visual Stories Exhibition from 29 July to 7 September. INSPIRE’s Arts service have commissioned artists and storytellers to work with students from West Bridgford Junior School and Mattersey Primary School to explore visual literacy through mask making and creating stories. The resulting artworks are brought together an amazing exhibition, to encourage library visitors to take up the Summer Reading Challenge and join in the artist-led workshops in libraries across the county (further details below)
How the Summer Reading Challenge works
• Children sign up for free at the library and pick up an Animal Agents collector folder introducing children to the Animal Agents and setting the scene for the mystery they need to help solve.
• Children choose the books they want to read. They can record what they have read on their folder. And staff and volunteers will be on hand at the library to chat to children about books they have read.
• For every book read children will pick up stickers containing clues to reveal the culprit who has been causing chaos in the library. Some of these clues are smelly! There is also a bookmark to collect along the way.
• Every child who completes the challenge by reading 6 library books will receive a medal, certificate and an Animal Agents wristband.
It’s all free fun and a great way to keep chilldren reading over the summer holidays. Animal Agents will be running in all Inspire libraries from 15 July – 10 September www.inspireculture.org.uk/summerreadingchallenge
