The Severn Teaching School Alliance offers local Primary or Early Years School Direct teacher training programmes. Our programmes have a duration of one academic year and on completion all successful trainees are awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and either a Primary or Early Years PGCE. Applicants need to hold a University Degree or recognised equivalent qualification and also have GCSE grade C and above in English, Maths and Science or equivalent qualification.
What is School Direct?
School Direct is the national teacher training programme that leads to Qualified Teacher Status and the award of a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. The programme offers an exciting opportunity to train alongside outstanding practitioners, gaining valuable knowledge, skills and professional aptitudes. School Direct placements will be offered in one of the many schools in our Alliance. On our School Direct programme you will spend the majority of your time training in the classroom, helping to build your confidence in a school environment whilst receiving mentoring support. Academic and curriculum training sessions are all held at our Telford training base.
The School Direct Programme is funded by the tuition fees paid by trainees who will be eligible for a student loan. Details of bursaries and other financial assistance you may qualify for are available on the Dfe and UCAS websites.
